GWR 1923-1934 Unlined Loco Livery

Martin Finney Bulldog Class

As opposed to the express passenger locos, all other locos carried a uniform green livery with no lining throughout the period 1923-1934.

On tender locos, the tender was lettered 'Great Western' in full, while tank locos carried the same lettering on the tank sides. Dome and safety valves were officially painted green, with the chimney top in black. A few locos did however run with polished saftey valve casings and/or chimney tops - as replicated on many RTR models.

The loco seen here is of the Bulldog Class, built from one of Martin Finneys etched brass kits. The Bulldogs were introduced in 1899 as developments of the earlier Duke class. They were in all aspects the design of Churchward, who was Chief Assistant to Dean at the time.
