GWR engine headlamp codes

Phil Martin's pdf provides headlamp codes as given in the appendices to the GWR rule books, covering the period 1918–1950. These headlamp codes were required to be displayed at all times (extinguished by day and lighted at night and during fog or falling snow) on the GWR system, and also apply to locos from other companies working over it. The letter denoting the class of train was given at the head of the columns of the working timetable. Signalmen used the bellcode appropriate to the type of train. Special bellcodes could apply to some sections of line, and were specified on a local basis, but are not given here.

The pdf can be printed out as a single page and pinned up as a quick reference.
