Fairford

OO layout by Ian McEwan

This is Fairford, a 44' long layout that depicts both Fairford and Lechlade Stations. The Fairford section has the railway cottages to be completed and the area to be populated, while Lechlade Station Building, Signal Box and Cattle Dock still need completing. All buildings except the pagodas (Wills kits) are scratch built with 1.7mm mounting card and SuperQuick building paper. The water tower and both cattle docks are by Ratio.

At the moment locos are by Hornby, Bachmann and Lima, with an SE Finecast Metro tank to build. Rolling stock is mainly RTR with some Cooper-Craft and Ratio wagon kits. The turntable is an Airfix/Dapol kit cut-down kit to 45' and motorized. It now works extremely well, after initial problems of maintaining a constant power supply to rotation and the rails on the bridge. The layout has 6 modules, 6'3" long by 2'2" wide, an angle module 2'6" by 2'2" and a traverser unit 4' by 2'2"

The photos were taken at The Big Model Train Show in Christchuch, New Zealand. Thanks are due to Terry Sutton from our local modelling group, who took some of the photos and helped with the turntable.

Ian has his own website to feature the layouts he has built or is building.
