7mm model Platelayers' hut at Andoversford A model of the Platelayers' hut at Andoversford, built from Slaters Plastikard.
GWR fog signalman's hut This Fog signalman's hut is based on the one in Great Western Railway Journal No 27, page 178. I took the dimensions from the plan and converted them to 7mm scale. I really like this little building and can see a number of them on the layout when the time comes.
7mm platelayers' hut at St Mary's Crossing Another Platelayers' hut, this one from St Mary's Crossing. I used the drawings in "Eric Plans: GWR & LMS Buildings and Structure" from Peco and took the dimensions up to 7mm.
7mm model of platelayers' hut at Dunster The Platelayer's hut at Dunster. I must say I really enjoy doing these little stuctures and they make superb buildings.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock This large water tower is based on that at Radstock. The model draws on a photo of the water tower at Radstock on page 150 of "Great Western Engine Sheds 1837-1947". I calculated the measurements from the photo, as the book gives the dimensions for the Engine Shed.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock I built the tank sides out of 1mm Slaters Plastikard, while the 6 legs are evergreen tube No. 236. The ladder is Plastruct No. KL-8, and the brass wire for the safety rail is from Slaters. The water level is a pully wheel is a left-over from my conversion of a Lionel Trains O gauge P&H Power Shovel. The housing for the pully wheel is made up from 2mm wide scrap brass and some cotton, with a piece of K&S scrap brass tube for the weight.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock The wheels to turn the water supply on and of are originally from my Eric Underhill O Gauge 2021 Pannier tank kit. The fixing bolts for the legs are 12BA bolts (incl nuts and washers) from Slaters, and add a really nice touch.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock A detail photo before painting, showing the buildup of details under the tank.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock The large pipe under the tower was made from 1mm Slaters Plastikard scribed with a knife to give an appearence of separate planks. I then just added some framing from 1mm by 5mm Plastikard and yet another brass wheel from my Eric Underhill kit. A photo of a similar arrangement can be seen photo on page 58 of the "GW Engine Sheds" book referred to above.
7mm GWR water tower, based on Radstock A final view of the water tower, with the Great Bear underneath! The panelling on the tank sides was scribed again with a knife. I painted the tower with Precision Paints 1 and 3 matt stone, and Humbrol paints.
