Models by Malcolm Mitchell

A couple of pictures of Malcolm's model of autofitted 0-4-2T 1450, in BR(W) lined green livery. Built from the basis of an MOK etched nickel silver kit, this model features a scratch-built boiler/firebox/smokebox assembly and turned fittings. Alan Harris wheels and a Portescap RG7 motor take care of the running, pick-ups being some of the old Ron Chaplin units. Painting and lining by Alan Brackenborough.

Here's something to keep the rest of us on our toes. This 7mm 45xx was built by Malcolm Mitchell in his "A-shop" – the trading name for his finished 7mm models. It is in early 1913 condition, still awaiting weathering. You can see more of Malcolm's work on the A-shop homepage. His 7mm kits were marketed by Just Like the Real Thing.

Moving to 2mm scale, this model of one of the standard designs of signal box was built and designed by Malcolm Mitchell for the Churchward Models range which he owned in the mid-1980s. The model was one of the first ever etched brass scenic models to be produced, and was featured in the first Model Railway Journal in the spring of 1985.
